Fashion trend reports by big cosmetics labels like Dior, Mac and Nars only talk about a single color -- red.
Red lipsticks dominate the market. Mac makeup artist Byun Myung-sook said, "I don't think I've seen a season when red lipstick was the only item that was in vogue. In the past autumn seasons, usually similar-toned colors like dark pink, orange, chocolate and wine colors also enjoyed popularity, but this year the recession, color therapy and technological innovation all made it possible for only red to emerge."
Makeup artist Kim Jan-di at Shu Uemura said, "Red is one of the colors with the longest history and something that women desire. It seems that the keyword for this season is the return to instinct."
Makeup artist Park Hye-jeong at Nars said, "A prolonged recession makes people feel that they can't afford even a little bit of luxury. A simple touch of red lipstick alone is like complete make-up, so the answer is red."
"There are dozens of different shades of red that cosmetic companies showcased this season. It’s difficult to find a color that has so many different faces to it," an executive of a cosmetics company said.
