President Park Geun-hye on Saturday accepted the resignation of Prosecutor General Chae Dong-wook over allegations that he fathered a son out of wedlock.
Chae offered to resign 15 days ago.
Cheong Wa Dae spokesman Lee Jung-hyun said Park "accepted his resignation because it is no longer possible to leave the prosecution in limbo."
When the Justice Ministry started investigating the allegations on Sept. 13, Chae immediately offered to resign, but Park held off because she wanted the facts to be established first.
The ministry on Friday urged Cheong Wa Dae to accept his resignation as enough evidence suggests that the allegation is true.
