In the latest in a string of misdemeanors by diplomats from minor representations in Korea, the Lebanese ambassador was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Wednesday.
Yongsan police station said Ambassador Jad Saeed El-Hassan hit a car that was waiting for a left-turn signal in front of the Capital Hotel in Itaewon at around 10 a.m. but fled to the embassy.
The 33-year-old woman whose car was hit by the ambassador's Hyundai Genesis chased him to the mission and demanded an apology, but the envoy was not seen again and a staffer filed an insurance claim.
The woman was treated for trauma to her neck and back.
According to the Lebanese Embassy, the accident was a mistake, and the ambassador left the scene because he was "unwell."
