The Kaesong Industrial Complex is welcoming its first European business leader on Thursday as part of a drive to attract foreign investment.
The inter-Korean industrial park resumed operations last week.
A spokesman for shoemaker Samduk Tongsang, which operates a factory in Kaesong, said, "We've agreed to a joint investment deal with Germany's Me & Friends AG," and its head Michael Ertl and Samduk chairman Moon Chang-seop will visit the Kaesong complex on Thursday.
They will tour Samduk's factory there and meet Hong Yang-ho, who heads the committee running the industrial park. Ertl will also attend a foreign investment blitz at the industrial park on Oct. 31 before making a final decision.
Me & Friends has imported shoes from Samduk for around 10 years and buys around 300,000 pairs of shoes from the Korean company a year.
A Unification Ministry official said several foreign companies had considered investing in the complex before the shutdown earlier this year but none of the plans came to fruition. But he said now several are interested again.
