Samsung Electronics will invest an additional US$500 million in its flash memory chip plant, which is already under construction in Xian, China, the company said on Thursday.
On the same day, Samsung opened its R&D Center in the same city to find talented workers in these fields and increase its competitiveness.
With the additional investment, post-process lines will be put up adjacent to the originally planned production lines. The plant will mainly produce NAND flash memory chips for use in smartphones and tablet PCs.
Samsung plans to complete it by the end of next year and start production in 2014.
