A showdown between Ryu Hyun-jin and Choo Shin-soo will not materialize this week as scheduled.
Los Angeles Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly announced prior to the game against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday that Ryu would not be starting against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday due to a stiff back.
Instead, Chris Capuano will replace him. "I'm not really concerned, but we're being a little cautious," said Mattingly.
Ryu was supposed to start on Wednesday against the Rockies at Coors Field.
However, as Mattingly wanted to test newly acquired Edinson Volquez on Wednesday, Ryu's start was postponed, making Friday the most likely date for a second showdown between the two Korean Major Leaguers.
But as Ryu has been scratched, this cannot now happen until the post season or next season. Ryu is likely to start next week against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
