Mercedes-Benz Korea has reduced the price of its compact luxury B-Class models by W2.2 million (US$1=W1,099). The price tag of the basic model B-Class has shrunk from W39.5 million to W37.3 million, while the same model with extra options has fallen from W43.9 million to W41.7 million.
The B-Class comes with a 1.8-liter diesel engine and is among the entry-level models of the German luxury carmaker along with the smaller A-Class.
Mercedes-Benz hoped younger consumers would warm up to the B-Class, which is more affordable than larger models, but sales so far this year have totaled only around 500 units.
A staffer said the price was reduced by getting rid of previously offered freebies, such as basic replacement parts including engine oil and oil filters. Buyers of the B-Class must now pay an extra W990,000 for replacements.
