South Korean Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin and his U.S. counterpart Chuck Hagel met in Brunei on Wednesday to discuss a possible delay in the transfer of full operational control of Korean troops to Seoul.
The talks came on the sidelines of the second ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting, which runs through Thursday.
Kim says he once again stressed to Hagel the need to delay the handover that is planned for 2015. He said Hagel seemed to partially agree but added that differences remain. He did not say what they are.
The timeline for the handover is likely to be finalized at the Security Consultative Meeting in Seoul in October.
