World No. 1 Park In-bee withdrew from the U.S. LPGA Tour's Safeway Classic on Tuesday due to illness.

Her management agency IB Worldwide said she was vomiting and had stomach pains. She will return to Korea to take a rest before departing for France to participate in the Evian Championship next month.

The Safeway Classic offers total prize money of US$1.3 million and tees off at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland, Oregon on Thursday. Park finished second in last year's event.

Since winning her third consecutive major of the season on the LPGA Tour last month, Park's schedule has become weighed down by various events and press interviews due to the huge public interest in her mammoth achievement. She said the situation had become so draining that she was struggling to find time to practice and felt sapped of energy and often distracted while competing.

The Evian Championship is the fifth and final major of the season, as well as the first major championship to be played in Europe outside of the U.K. It offers total prize money of $3.25 million and will get under way in Evian-les-Bains on Sept. 12.

Park ended a four-year slump by claiming the title last year, before it was upgraded to a major. If she can overcome her illness and successfully defend her crown this year, she will have claimed an unprecedented four majors in a single season.
