Former President Roh Tae-woo was admitted to Seoul National University Hospital on Monday afternoon due to chronic high blood pressure and other accompanying symptoms, the hospital said.
Roh has been battling a rare disease called cerebellar atrophy since 2008. Cerebellar atrophy brings degenerative changes to the brain and causes the patient to lose motor skills.
The hospital said the ex-president was hospitalized for similar symptoms in the past and his blood pressure did not soar to the extent that it could endanger his life.
Roh recently agreed to pay the remaining W24 billion of a W262.9 billion (US$1=W1,113) fine for corruption in office and other charges.
