Mercedes-Benz launched its A-Class model equipped with a 1.8-liter diesel engine in Korea with an accompanying price tag of W34.9 million (US$1=W1,113), the carmaker said on Monday. It is the cheapest model the German automaker has ever sold in the country.
"The A-Class is equipped with a new diesel engine and a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, and offers a maximum output of 136 hp and fuel efficiency of 18.0 km per liter," the automaker said. Prices range from W34.9 million to W43.5 million, depending on options.
As BMW released its 1 Series hatchback for W33.6 million last year, the two German brands are expected to compete fiercely in the compact passenger car segment.
