Apple will release two new iPhones next month, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. "It has asked assembler Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. to begin shipping both a new high-end and low-end iPhone in early September," the paper wrote.
Hon Hai is the parent company of Foxconn, which makes Apple products under sometimes controversial circumstances.
Industry insiders say the move is part of Apple's efforts to win back customers amid falling market share since the release of iPhone 5 last September. "Apple is adding a new color to the iPhone color palette, and yes, it is indeed gold," the paper's blog AllThingsD added.
As for the new low-end model, pundits speculate that the aluminum case has been replaced with plastic to cut production costs.
