Rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae won one silver and one bronze medal at the final World Cup Series event of the season in St. Petersburg, Russia on Sunday.
In the hoop final, Son scored 17.883 points to finish second behind Russia's Margarita Mamun, who earned 18.383 points. In the ribbon final, she got 18.066 to claim third place on the podium. Mamun and her compatriot Yana Kudryavtseva won gold and silver with respective scores of 18.500 and 18.316.
Son also placed highly in ball and club, scoring 18.016 in each to finish fourth both times. She has collected at least one medal in all five of the World Cup Series competitions she has entered this season.
Ukraine's top gymnasts Ganna Rizatdinova and Alina Maksymenko did not compete this time.
This was the last international competition before the World Championship in Kiev, Ukraine, which will take place from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1.
Son returned to her training base in Novogorsk, Russia as soon as the event finished. She is aiming to become Korea's first rhythmic gymnast to ever win a medal at the World Championships next week.
