Park In-bee has been shortlisted for the Sportswoman of the Year award by the U.S.-based Women's Sports Foundation.
The WSF, which was founded by tennis star Billie Jean King to promote women's sports, gives the award annually to athletes in honor of their outstanding achievements.
This year, it selected eight finalists based on their performance over the 12-month period ending July 31.
The other nominees include U.S. pole vaulter Jenn Suhr, U.S. snowboarder Kelly Clark, Japanese figure skater Mao Asada, U.S. swimmer Missy Franklin, U.S. tennis player Serena Williams and Slovenian alpine skier Tina Maze.
An online poll is under way on the foundation's website until Sept. 9. Based on the results, the winners will be awarded at a ceremony in New York on Oct. 16.
U.S. gymnast Gabrielle Douglas, tennis player Martina Navratilova of Czech Republic and Taiwanese golfer Yani Tseng are among the past recipients. Figure skating champion Kim Yu-na became the first Korean athlete to win the award in 2010.
