A new report claims that North Korea has not been able to procure enough food to cover an expected shortage this year.
U.S.-based broadcaster Voice of America reports that the impoverished state was able to secure just 57 percent of the grains it needed from abroad between November and June.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, North Korea needs 507,000 tons of food secured by October.
The World Food Programme said earlier this week that 80 percent of the North's population will suffer due to food shortages this year.
