Seoul 'Concerned' at Obama Veto of Apple Ban

The government here expressed concern on Monday after U.S. President Barack Obama on Saturday vetoed a ban by the U.S. International Trade Commission on the import of Apple products that infringe rival Samsung Electronics' patents.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in a statement warned of the "negative impact that such a decision would have on the protection of patent rights" and pledged to closely monitor the ITC's ruling scheduled for Friday on whether Samsung infringed any of Apple's patented technologies.

The ministry said it hopes for a "fair and rational" ruling.

Meanwhile, Samsung appealed the ITC ruling in a U.S. federal court because it only recognizes an infringement of one of the four patents the Korean firm had sued over.

If the U.S. court rules in favor of Samsung, the ITC must conduct another review of the other three patents, which could lead to a ban of more products and provoke another veto.
