The number of subscribers to fourth-generation LTE mobile service has for the first time surpassed that of 3G network subscribers in Korea, according to the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning on Thursday.
As of June, some 23 million people subscribed to the LTE network, an increase of about 980,000 the previous month. This accounted for 42 percent of the entire mobile phone users. But the number of 3G network users dropped by 600,000 in the same period to 22.1 million.
The number of LTE subscribers has grown rapidly from 17.26 million in January.
