The number of Korean tourists going abroad topped 7 million in the first half of this year to stand at an all-time high. The Korea Tourism Organization said 7.23 million Koreans traveled overseas, up nearly 10 percent from the same period last year.
The organization explained that a growing boom in leisure and travel contributed to the surge in overseas trips.
Japan was the preferred destination due largely to the weakening yen, with the number of travelers jumping more than 37 percent from January to April compared to the same period last year.
On the other hand, the number of foreign visitors to Korea rose 3.6 percent to 5.5 million in the first six months of the year.
