Office workers will get a longer summer break but lower vacation bonuses this summer due to the recession, a survey shows.
According to the poll of 551 companies nationwide by the Korea Employers Federation on Tuesday, workers get an average of 4.3 days of summer vacation this year, up 0.3 days from last year and the longest since 2009.
When asked why, 28.8 percent of the companies surveyed said they increased their summer break due to production cuts, and 23.7 percent said to reduce costs.
Other reasons included attempts to treat staff better with 27.1 percent and new management-labor agreements with 20.3 percent. Respondents were able to give multiple answers.
