Park Chu-young, who is on loan from Arsenal to Celta Vigo in Spain's La Liga, has been fined for not showing up for the last match of the league season.
Spanish media outlet Terra reported on Monday that he "showed a strange character when parting ways with the team." It added that he refused to attend the last game of the season against Espanyol on June 2.
According to club regulations, Park, who was not on the roster due to injury, should have been in the stadium to support his teammates, but he proved a no-show at the venue.
Celta Vigo succeeded in avoiding relegation with a 1-0 victory over Espanyol, finishing in 17th place with 37 points from 10 wins, 7 draws and 21 losses. A loss or draw would have seen it demoted to the second-tier league, but its last-gasp survival ensures each of the players will receive a bonus. Park will get his minus the sum of the fine.
After joining the club in September, Park scored three goals and added one assist in 22 matches, having started eight games. He will now return to Arsenal in the English Premier League, where his future is equally uncertain. Rumors are circulating that the Gunners want to offload several players including Park in exchange for Real Madrid's Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain.
