The number of weddings fell in March for the fifth straight month and new births dropped to a 32-year low, according to the latest figures released by Statistics Korea.

Some 23,000 people got hitched in March, down 16 percent on-year and the lowest figure since 2008. The number of babies born fell 10.2 percent to just below 39,000.

It said that fewer people are tying the knot due to Korea’s aging population, which is seeing a smaller population of young people in their late 20s and early 30s.
