World No. 1 golfer Park In-bee has been named female athlete of the month for April by the United States Sports Academy.
The USSA on Monday said that "Park, who became the No. 1 ranked women's player after her Kraft Nabisco Championship title," was granted the honor and is now a candidate for athlete of the year.
The USSA, founded in Alabama in 1972, picks the best athletes through a worldwide online poll each month.
Park has recorded three wins this season, including her victory last month at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, one of four majors on the U.S. LPGA Tour. She took the top spot in the women's world rankings of golf and also leads the LPGA Tour money list.
Figure skating champion Kim Yu-na was named female athlete of the month for March, making this the first time two Koreans have been chosen back to back by the USSA.
The runner-up in the women's category was American 100-meter hurdler Queen Harrison, while Maria Sharapova, the No. 2 ranked women's tennis player, finished third.
In the men's category, Australian golfer Adam Scott, who won the Masters last month, was chosen as the top male athlete for April.
