A lawyer on Monday declined to represent ex-presidential spokesman Yoon Chang-jung in efforts to clear his name of sexual molestation charges.
The lawyer, an attorney with a leading law firm, is also licensed in the U.S.
He told the Chosun Ilbo by phone, "I visited the Yoon family at their home in Gimpo yesterday evening as they asked for consultation, but concluded that I won't represent them because there's nothing I can do in Korea."
Yoon is accused of molesting an embassy intern in Washington in a scandal that blighted President Park Geun-hye's first overseas trip.
"Since the case is being dealt with in the U.S., there is no way to find out what progress is being made in the investigation, and what records are kept," the lawyer said.
He added, "Yoon and I are not particularly close, but we've met before."
