A cyber attack last week on government computer networks caused 300,000 official e-mails to be delivered to the wrong recipients, it belatedly emerged on Monday.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said an unregistered IP address accessed the government's integrated computer network for half an hour, causing 300,000 official messages to be sent out to random Hanmail accounts.
The ministry waited four days until it admitted the debacle. It said the system was restored at around 3:30 p.m. on that same day.
"The e-mails that were sent out did not contain titles or file attachments and did not lead to any malfunctions in other servers," a ministry official claimed.
