Korea claimed the largest share in the Chinese import market for January and February, pushing former leader Japan to a distant third.
The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency said Sunday that Korean goods made up 9.2 percent in the Chinese import market for the first two months of the year thanks to strong sales of Korean mobile phones and auto parts.
Taiwan came in second with roughly 8 percent and Japan ranked third at under 8 percent. Japan's dominance has sharply weakened in recent years, while Korea's relative stability has enabled it to snatch first place.
Experts say, however, that Japanese products could make a comeback in the second half of the year due to Tokyo's weak yen policy.
