Cherry blossoms and warmer temperatures aren't the only things to look forward to as the season changes. Many who struggle to adjust will suffer from spring fatigue, which causes listlessness and low motivation.
The condition usually sets in sometime from the end of February to mid-April and is caused by longer daylight hours and higher temperatures. When the temperature rises, bodies consume more energy while muscles tightened during the cold winter months can loosen, leaving to a sluggish feeling.
Lack of sleep can also contribute to spring fatigue as people tend to wake up earlier as nights grow shorter.
"Spring fatigue is not a disease but a temporary physiological maladjustment that occurs when the body does not adapt to seasonal changes quickly enough. It can be worth treating feelings of fatigue and listlessness as they can disrupt our schedules and possibly harm our health," said Han Jin-kyu, head of the Seoul Sleep Center.
To prevent the problem, experts recommend waking up at the same time each morning and ensuring at least 30 minutes of sun exposure each day. A 20-minute nap after lunch can also help generate energy as can eating smaller portions consisting of seasonal fruits or vegetables.
