The U.S. has reiterated North Korea's continual threats and brinkmanship will not help the nation achieve a brighter future.

In a press briefing Tuesday, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said North Korea could secure a better future for its people if its leadership takes steps to comply with the country's international obligations.

She said the regime's "trash-talking" would only lead the country in a wrong direction.
