Park Jong-woo
Footballer Park Jong-woo will tie the knot in Seoul on May 19, a spokesman for his team Busan IPark said on Wednesday. His bride-to-be is two years his senior and recently quit her job to start a master's degree.
The 24-year-old belatedly received his Olympic bronze medal last month. After Korea's 2-0 victory over Japan in the bronze-medal match at the London Olympic Games in August last year, Park ran a lap of honor with a sign that read, "Dokdo is Our Land." Due to the controversial celebratory gesture, the IOC decided to withhold his medal and did not allow him to attend the medal ceremony.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, he contributed one goal and one assist in a 2-2 draw against Gangwon FC in the K League Classic. After scoring the goal, he celebrated by unfolding seven of his fingers. The number seven has a special meaning for the couple, Park said.
