Rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae has won a bronze medal in the first international competition she entered this year.

Son earned 16.533 points in the club finals at the Gazprom Cup Grand Prix in Moscow on Sunday, trailing Russia's Margarita Mamun, who won with 17.933 points, and Bulgaria's Sylvia Miteva, who had 16.950 points.

This was the first time Son won a medal in club, which has historically been her weakest discipline. Her average score in club was more than one point below what she earned in the other three disciplines at the individual all-around of the 2012 London Olympics. She finished fifth at the Games.

To start the new season, Son changed the choreography and music in all four programs: hoop, ball, club and ribbon. She showed off the changes among some of Russia's top gymnasts at the latest event.
