Koreans Drank More Soju, Beer Last Year

Korean adults drank an average of 88.4 bottles of soju and 147.1 bottles of beer per person last year, a report released by the Korea Alcohol and Liquor Industry Association on Monday shows.

Production of the distilled liquor stood at 3.4 billion 30-milliliter bottles in 2012, which works out to be 88.4 bottles when divided by 38.59 million people between the ages of 19 and 79.

This figure fell by 1.4 percent between 2010 and 2011 from 86.9 bottles to 85.7 bottles but then increased 3.2 percent last year.

At the same time, beer consumption reached 147.1 bottles per person with 5.6 billion 330-milliliter bottles of domestic and foreign brands in combined total consumption.
 
Adults consumed an average of 144.5 bottles of beer in 2010 and 144.4 bottles in 2011.
