The biggest reason for saving and investing for men and women in their 20s or 30s is preparing for their wedding, an online straw poll finds.
Dating site I-um claims it polled 11,667 men and women in the age group why they save or invest, and 36 percent of men and 46 percent of women said to be able to pay for the cost of getting married.
Among men, 25 percent said they are saving up to buy a house, and 20 percent to prepare for retirement. Another 15 percent said they do it to satisfy short-term goals of travelling, grooming, and their love life.
As for women, 23 percent said the purpose was to get ready for the retirement, 20 percent for short-term goals, 10 percent for a house and 4 percent to pay off debt.
Both men (36 percent) and women (20 percent) most regret spending on merrymaking and dating. But while men picked merrymaking and dating as the biggest obstacle to saving, women named shopping.
