Fortuna Dusseldorf of Bundesliga in Germany announced that it terminated its contract with Cha Du-ri, originally set to run until June 2014, by "mutual agreement" on Thursday.
Cha left Celtic in Scotland and joined the German team in June last year but failed to demonstrate commitment. He took special leave early in the season due to personal reasons, missing three games including the season opener.
The athlete, who is married with two children, was not joined by his family when he moved to Dusseldorf. After the end of the season's first half, Cha returned to Korea in December and did not rejoin his team when training resumed in January.
In total, he played 11 matches before his contract was terminated.
As the January transfer window in Europe has closed, Cha must wait until the summer to make his next move or try to find a position in the K-League.
