Choo Shin-soo and the Cincinnati Reds have agreed to a one-year contract worth US$7.4 million.

Choo was traded from Cleveland in December and was seeking $8 million for the final year of his contract with the club. The Indians said they were prepared to offer him $6.75 million before the Reds made an offer halfway in between the two.

Choo will become a free agent next year unless the two sides reach a deal to extend his contract.
