Some 28.61 million people played golf in Korea last year, up 6.3 percent from 26.90 million in 2011. But the number of players per hole, a key figure for golf courses, stood at 3,522, down 1 percent from 2011.
According to a survey of 266 private and public golf courses with more than six holes released by the Korea Golf Course Business Association on Wednesday, new courses have been popping up at a progressively slower rate over the last decade, while the number of people who enjoy the sport has gradually increased.
The number of golf courses nationwide stood at 437 as of late 2012, up 27 from 410 in 2011.
