The statue in honor of the so-called comfort women has been dressed in hanbok or traditional Korean dress.

Hanbok designer Lee Young-hee dressed the statue in the costume she designed on Wednesday just days ahead of the Lunar New Year.

On this day, former victims and many other citizens held the weekly protest next to the statue as usual to demand Japan's sincere apology and compensation for forcing women sexual slavery for its troops during World War II.

The monument was set up in Dec. 2011 in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul to mark the 1,000th weekly protest against Japan's atrocities.
