A heavy snow warning was issued for most central parts of the country on Sunday afternoon, a day ahead of Ipchun or the official beginning of spring by the lunar calendar.

Snowfall stopped in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province on Monday morning but is forecast to return on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Up to 15 cm of snow fell until Monday morning, leading to snarled commuter traffic.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast that the mercury will begin to plummet from Thursday to far below the seasonal average, and the cold weather will last until the lunar New Year's holidays.
