Marathoner Lee Bong-joo, who won a silver medal at the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996, Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi and former NBA star Yao Ming participated in the snowshoeing event at the Pyeongchang Special Olympics World Winter Games on Wednesday.

They teamed up with athletes with intellectual disabilities and ran a 400-m race on a snowy track wearing aluminum snowshoes at a ski resort in Pyeongchang.

The snowshoeing race was held to reinforce the spirit of the Special Olympics and inspire unity by giving celebrity participants and athletes an opportunity to pull together.

"I learned so much from the athletes, who just keep on challenging themselves," said Lee. Other such events run daily until Tuesday.
