Medals made with melted barbed wire from the Demilitarized Zone will be given to some 120,000 Korean War veterans or the families of the fallen in 21 countries. They mark the 60th anniversary of armistice that halted the Korean War.

A memorial committee on Thursday said it made the decision to honor men from 21 allied countries who fought in the war "to protect liberal democracy."
