A performance by global superstar Psy of "Gangnam Style" fame is being considered for the inauguration of president-elect Park Geun-hye on Feb. 25. Officials planning the event on Thursday agreed to make the ceremony as dignified and frugal as possible.
Rather than inviting high-profile foreign and domestic dignitaries, the planners want to center the ceremony on ordinary people. Some 30,000 out of the 60,000 guests will be selected from among the general public.
Those who want to attend can apply on a website that will open Monday.
But to keep the ceremony in front of the National Assembly from becoming too somber, officials are planning various performances so the public can enjoy a festive atmosphere. "We are considering various options including a performance by Psy," said one official.
