The K7 was first launched in 2007 but underwent an extensive redesign at the end of last year. The previous model has been exported to Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East for the last two years.

The automaker decided to delay its U.S. entry until luxury sedans made by its larger affiliate Hyundai Motor -- such as the Grandeur, Genesis and Equus – became better established in the market.
