Most elementary schoolchildren want to become athletes but their parents want them to be doctors when they grow up.
Statistics Korea on Tuesday published an illustrated book with data based on a survey of 909 schoolchildren and their parents by the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training.
Some 14.7 percent of elementary children want to become athletes, 13.3 percent teachers and 10 percent entertainers. But 16.4 percent of parents expect their children to be doctors, 15.3 percent teachers, and 13.8 percent civil servants.
In middle school, teacher is the preferred choice for both parents and children, but they still differ about the rest.
