Samsung Electronics not only toppled Apple to become No. 1 in the global smartphone market but also beat Apple in advertising.
The Wall Street Journal chose the five best and five worst commercials of the year on Monday, and Samsung's Galaxy S3 commercial "The Next Big Thing Is Already Here" came in fifth-best.
It was watched by 22 million people around the world, with 90 percent responding positively.
On the other hand, Apple's commercials featuring a staffer from Apple’s consumer support center, the "Genius Bar," was named worst commercial of the year.
"The ads fell short of Apple's usual ability to entertain the audience. BlueFin Labs, a firm that tracks consumer comments on social media, said comments about the ads were 3.4 times more negative than positive," the paper said.
The WSJ picked a Red Bull commercial as the best of the year.
