Seven out of 10 teenage girls hardly get any physical exercise, recent figures show. According to a report released Monday by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 46.5 percent of teenage boys do not exercise at all, and among people in their 20s, 50 percent of men and 67.3 percent of women never work out.
The report was based on the findings of two surveys -- one conducted nationwide in 2011 of 4,000 adults, and the other this year of 9,000 people over 10.
Koreans exercised far less than their foreign counterparts. In the EU, 65.5 percent of people exercise more than once a week but 34 percent never. But in Korea the respective figures are 50.3 percent and 45.3 percent.
In Japan, a survey in 2009 found that only 30.7 percent of adults exercised once or twice in three months or less.
