Moon in Fruitless Trip to Ahn's House

Democratic United Party presidential hopeful Moon Jae-in made a fruitless trip on Wednesday morning to the home of his former independent rival Ahn Cheol-soo, who recently withdrew his bid for the presidency.

Yoo Min-young, a spokesman for Ahn, said, "We were told by Moon's camp that he was coming, but Ahn was not home at the time." Yoo added aides informed Moon of that.

Lee Mok-hee from Moon’s election camp said he could not confirm whether his office had got the message.

The failed meeting casts doubt on Ahn's lukewarm pledges to support Moon. Ahn apparently pulled out of the race because he was upset by what he saw as underhand tactics from Moon's camp in attempts to field a single opposition candidate.

Ahn also canceled a scheduled press conference on Wednesday to detail his plans to support Moon. "Moon's camp deliberately leaked information about his visit to Ahn's home" in order to pressure the software tycoon, said one source close to Ahn.

"It was also wrong to claim inaccurately to the media that Ahn was going to canvass for Moon or that his former supporters had joined Moon's election camp."
