A bi-partisan group of senators in the U.S. has proposed a House resolution commemorating Korean War veterans.
The resolution was proposed by Senator Daniel Akaka of Hawaii and three co-sponsors, who pointed out the Korean War has long been a "forgotten war" for many Americans.
The resolution calls for the designation of 2012-2013 as the Year of the Korean War Veteran, with ceremonies in both the U.S. and Korea in recognition of the start of hostilities on June 25, 1950. It also calls for the war to be taught as part of the curriculum in U.S. schools.
