Hotel Shilla in Seoul will be closed for remodeling from early January until the end of June. Except for its duty free shop, all rooms including the hotel's restaurants and banquet halls will be closed during the entire remodeling period.
"As it's been more than 30 years since the hotel opened, it needs to be renovated because of the low ceilings and narrow rooms," a spokesperson for the hotel said. "The exterior of the building will remain intact, but the wallpaper and beds in all of the rooms will be replaced."
Although extensive renovation work was carried out on some of the restaurants and banquet rooms in 2006, they will all be closed in light of the potential inconvenience to guests from the noise of the repair work.
In 2005, Hotel Shilla closed its Korean restaurant Seorabol, which opened in 1979, due to flagging profits, but the restaurant will be reopened after the renovations are finished.
