At 7 p.m. on Nov. 6, the "Marriage Proposal Wall" at Cheonggye Stream in downtown Seoul played host to the 1,000th couple declaring their undying love for each other.
The first official declaration of undying love was made on Christmas Eve in 2007. Since then, 999 marriage proposals have been made and accepted, representing an incredible 100 percent success rate. Only 18 couples are believed to have broken up since, meaning that 98.2 percent are still married to each other or waiting to do so.
Some 376 of the couples, or 40.8 percent, have since tied the knot. As such, many people see the wall as a lucky omen betokening a happy marriage and future family life.
According to a recent analysis, the last three months of each year are the busiest months for applications to propose at the wall, with Saturdays (38.8 percent) and Fridays (26.6 percent) the busiest days of the week.
In terms of age, people in their 30s accounted for 52.9 percent of the proposals, followed by people in their 20s at 41.4 percent. To apply, visit the official website at http://propose.sisul.or.kr.
