Park Jong-woo Given Olympic Bronze-Medal Certificate

Olympic footballer Park Jong-woo has received a medal certificate by the 2012 London Olympics organizing committee. The Korean Olympic Committee on Wednesday said the London committee sent certificates of participation and medals to all members of the Korean national team including Park.

Park's certificate was in doubt because he ran a lap of victory hoisting a picket saying "Dokdo Is Our Land" after the victorious bronze-medal match against Japan at the London Olympics.

The KOC said that once each of the quadrennial sports event ends, the organizing committee concerned unconditionally sends the documents, independently of ongoing procedures at FIFA and the IOC to determine whether Park violated the rule against political statements at the games.

In November, a meeting of the FIFA disciplinary committee will determine whether Park violated IOC regulations.

The certificate bears Park's name in English while identifying him as a bronze medalist in the men's football, together with the signatures of the president of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge, and Sebastian Coe, the chair of the London organizing committee.
