China Recalls Korean Instant Noodles

Chinese authorities have urged importers to recall six instant noodle products made by Korea's leading food manufacturer, Nongshim.

The order comes after the Korea Food and Drug Administration decided to recall the same six products in Korea due to the discovery of the carcinogen benzopyrene.

Health authorities in China have also ordered officials to strengthen their quarantine regulations to prevent the products from entering the country. Beijing initially deemed the Nongshim products safe as most of those sold in China are made at local factories in Shanghai and Shenyang.
