Apple lost an appeal in a U.K. court on Thursday which ruled that rival Samsung Electronics had not infringed its design patents.

The High Court in London ruled in July that the look of Samsung's Galaxy Tab tablet PC is not too similar to designs registered in connection with the iPad, with the judge adding that Samsung's devices are not as "cool" because they lack Apple's "extreme simplicity."

Apple now has to advertise in major U.K. newspapers and magazines until Oct. 25 that Samsung did not copy the iPad design and also publicize the ruling on its British website for the next month.

The ruling was suspended until the appeals court reached its decision.
